ART COLOGNE AND NADA ANNOUNCE COLLABORATIONS

New section and new floor plan for the Internationaler Kunstmarkt

NEW YORK, NY – ART COLOGNE, the world’s oldest and established fair for modern and contemporary art, and the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) are pleased to announce a new section to be launched at the 48th edition of ART COLOGNE, April 10-13, 2014. All galleries participating in COLLABORATIONS will showcase a program based on a jointly planned project. The new format will create the third mainstay of the fair alongside the two major sections entitled GALERIEN and NEW CONTEMPORARIES.

ART COLOGNE and NADA have worked closely together to develop the COLLABORATIONS criteria. The idea is to encourage galleries to engage with and explore the concept of collaboration. Projects can span every aspect of collaborative practice. Presenting booths shared by two galleries and/or a single gallery presenting a collaborative project, the aim of COLLABORATIONS is to point out new artistic parallels and to spark interaction – for example between an emerging gallery and an established gallery, between different artistic trends, styles and approaches, or across national borders.

Highlights of COLLABORATIONS include Gisela Capitain (Cologne) and Friedrich Petzel (New York) who will present a look into the gallery program they set up together in 2008 when they launched their joint venture, Capitain Petzel (Berlin). CANADA (New York) and Jack Hanley (New York) will collaborate on a group exhibition joining their respective gallery programs. Chicago-based gallery Corbett vs. Dempsey has invited the German artist Charline von Heyl to curate a group exhibition from the gallery’s program. Addressing a historical perspective, 401contemporary (Berlin) will exhibit collaborative works by the seminal Fluxus artist Mary Bauermeister and the composer Karlheinz Stockhausen. A full list of galleries featured at COLLABORATIONS will be published in late November 2013.

New floor plan

COLLABORATIONS will be accompanied by a whole new look for Hall 11.3. Approximately 1,000 square meters of exhibition space has been allocated to the new section. The hall has a square layout in which COLLABORATIONS booths will occupy its four corners. Booths are between 20 and 40 square meters in size. A spacious aisle down the center of the exhibition hall with an integrated podium, lounge area and restaurant, will create a central hub to encourage interaction and exchange of ideas and opinions.
