On September 12, Art|Basel launched the Art Basel Crowdfunding Initiative, a partnership with Kickstarter, to support non-profit visual arts organizations worldwide. Since the launch of the initiative, 935 people have helped to raise almost USD 170,000 and have successfully funded seven projects so far.
New projects are added to Art Basel’s curated page on Kickstarter on an ongoing basis as applications are reviewed and approved by the independent jury. Explore the current projects:
– Miami-based Locust Projects‘ campaign to produce a major installation with acclaimed sculptor Daniel Arsham which will be on view during the Art Basel show in Miami Beach.
– London-based The Mosaic Rooms‘ campaign to publish a book from Syrian artist Hrair Sarkissian that reflects on the disappearing tradition of studio portraiture in the Middle East.
Other organizations that are set to launch in the coming weeks include the Contemporary Art Gallery, a non-profit art gallery located in Vancouver; LagosPhoto, an international arts festival of photography in Nigeria; LAND, a Los Angeles-based public art organization, curating site-specific contemporary projects; the National Gallery of the Bahamas, the premier arts institution of The Bahamas located in Nassau; and PRAXES, Center for Contemporary Art, a not-for-profit venue for international contemporary art and research in Berlin.
This is an exciting opportunity to get involved in supporting the vibrant and global non-commercial art community. Pledge to campaigns on Art Basel’s curated page on Kickstarter, to receive exclusive rewards, and the chance to engage with the projects directly.
