The sixth annual Walk&Talk Azores arts festival opens on July 15th in Ponta Delgada, the capital city in São Miguel island. Site specific and arts residency based, Walk&Talk festival will promote and show projects created by more than 70 visual and performance artists, architects, designers, musicians, other creators and experts that are already involved in the 2016 edition.
On September 23rd it will travel for the first time to a second island of the Atlantic archipelago, hosting and presenting a selection of art projects at Angra do Heroísmo, a UNESCO world heritage city in Terceira island.
WALK&TALK AZORES 2016:
Walk&Talk Azores Festival 2016 will cover four main programming areas – the Public Art Circuit, thematic Arts Residencies, Knowledge and Simultaneous Programmes. The festival works as an experimental and unexampled laboratory that occupies public spaces to enrich it’s Public Art Circuit, an open air gallery that already gathers more than 80 artistic works such us murals, sculptures and installations. The Arts Residencies are an ongoing and thematic programme that aims to stimulate continuous research, cultural and site-specific creation in Azores and within various disciplines and media, such us dance, theater, photography, crafts, music, video and special projects developed by visual and performance artists. Finally, the Knowledge and Simultaneous activities programmes offer daily talks, workshops, master classes, guided-tours, concerts and performances, that take place at Walk&Talk Gallery, the festival’s main venue, as well on cultural institutions and other venues located all over Ponta Delgada city.
About Walk&Talk Festival:
The Walk&Talk annual arts festival points the culmination of the continuous artistic programming that is held by Anda&Fala association since 2011. From visual to performance arts, architecture to design, music to video, the festival encourages creation in permanent dialogue with the territory, culture and local community, promoting a favorable environment for sharing and co-creation and by building locally the universal content it generates.
Anda&Fala is a cultural non-profit association that advocates Azores as a creative meeting point and a privilege context for research, development and presentation of contemporary art projects by creators from all around the world.
Walk&Talk has already hosted more than 180 artists and collectives and has built at São Miguel island a public art circuit that gathers about 80 works that are mapped, marked and available for visit 365 days a year. Walk&Talk has the support of the Azores Government and is sponsored by Mailchimp, among several other local and national partners.
